Data Deletion
Last updated: August 18, 2026
This page explains how to delete the data associated with Sova — Budget & Split (com.kodmap.sova), a mobile application by kodmap. It is the deletion request route referenced by our Privacy Policy and by the Google Play Data safety form.
Sova is split into two halves, and each has its own deletion path:
- Personal budgeting needs no account at all. Everything stays on your device.
- Shared groups need an account (email and password), because other members have to be able to find you.
1. Delete your on-device data
Your personal ledger — accounts, transactions, categories, budgets, savings goals, recurring bills, and your settings — is stored only on your device. We never receive it.
- Delete individual records in the app at any time (open a record → Delete).
- Reset everything in place from Settings → Reset app data (or Reset preferences to keep your records and only restore default settings).
- Delete everything at once by uninstalling Sova. Uninstalling removes the entire local database and cannot be undone, so export a JSON backup or CSV first from Settings → Backup & Export if you want to keep a copy.
If you have saved a backup file yourself — to Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or email — that copy is under your control and is not affected by uninstalling.
2. Delete your account and shared-group data (in the app)
Shared groups sync expenses, splits, balances, and your display name so other members can see them. This is tied to your Sova account.
To delete it yourself, in the app:
Groups tab → + menu (top right) → Delete account → confirm.
This calls our backend, which detaches you from every group you belong to and deletes your authentication record — email address, password and display name. You are signed out immediately and there is nothing left to close afterwards.
Groups you own are deleted separately, from Group settings → Delete group; deleting a group removes its expenses, splits, settlements and activity for every member.
Because a shared expense is a joint record, an expense you entered may remain visible to the other members of a group you no longer belong to, in the same way a message you sent remains with its recipient. If you want those removed too, delete the group first (if you own it) or ask its owner to. Deleting a group is irreversible for everyone in it.
3. Request deletion by email
If you cannot sign in — or you would rather we did it — email kodmapdev@gmail.com with the subject "Sova data deletion", from the address you registered with.
If you never created an account but used the app, include your Sova user ID instead, which you can find at Settings → Legal → User ID (tap the row to copy it); without it we cannot identify anonymous records.
- We confirm receipt within 7 days and complete deletion within 30 days.
- Requests are free of charge.
4. What is deleted and what is kept
| Data | Deleted | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Personal ledger (accounts, transactions, budgets, goals, bills) | On uninstall / in-app delete | Stored on your device only; never sent to us |
| Account (email address, password, display name) | On in-app Delete account, or on request | Firebase Authentication record |
| Shared-group expenses, splits, balances, settlements, activity | With the account, or on group delete | Joint records; see §2 |
| Anonymous device identifier (used before sign-in) | On uninstall, or on request | Not linked to an email address |
| Push notification token | On uninstall | Firebase Cloud Messaging |
| Analytics & crash diagnostics | Retained per processor policy | Pseudonymous; Firebase Analytics / Crashlytics retention windows |
| Subscription & purchase records | Retained | Held by Apple / Google / RevenueCat; required for tax and refund records. Manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store or Play Store account |
We may retain a minimal record of the deletion request itself where required to demonstrate compliance.
